PROTECTOR, TEACHER, ENCOURAGER...

There is so much excitement going around about father’s day but let’s take a moment to reflect and evaluate the roles of fathers in child development. Mothers have been applauded in playing a noteworthy role in child growth and development, nonetheless, does it not take a male and female to produce a child?

We are going to discuss comprehensively on the role and influence of fathers in child development. A concern is that this however, should not be taken as insensitive. The aim of the message today is to affirm the roles fathers play in the lives of their children.

To those whose fathers passed away, are drunkards or labelled deadbeats, to those with great fathers, to those who have never known what fathers look like, those whose fathers are co-parenting and include any phrase that resonates with your situation.

From me to you; happy father’s day! PS take this to mean hey, how are you and sit back and read.

We all one day hope perhaps to have children. To the unmarried gentlemen and ladies adjust your glasses and seat, I hope you have that hot drink beside you, sip as we seek to learn. Those in parenthood this is to serve as a reminder on the role father’s play in child development.

DID YOU KNOW FACT.

Fathers who are actively involved in their children’s lives contribute to their emotional health, overall wellness, social development and self-respect.

ROLES OF FATHERS IN CHILD DEVELOPMENT.

  • Academic excellence.

Children with fathers who commend them when they accomplish tasks and behave positively, cuddle and comfort them when frightened and sad are likely to do well in school than children with uninvolved fathers.

  • Character building.

Fathers who respond calmly and patiently with their kids when they get in trouble raise boys who are less aggressive and girls who are less negative to their friends.

  • Interaction.

Young girls depend on their fathers for emotional security and support. A father shows his daughter what good relationships with others look like in choice of friends and spouses on the other hand, boys tend to emulate their fathers by seeking approval in their behavior in terms of character development as well as deportment.

  • Sexual purity.

Fathers who are involved with their daughters at a younger age help reduce their daughter’s risk of early teenage sexual experiences and teen pregnancies.

  • Language development.

Fathers involvement in early childhood leads to positive child development including advanced language development as mothers tend to use common vocabularies(motherese) fathers will more certainly introduce new words.

  • Play activities.

Father's play tend to be more active and fun. This helps the child explore the world around them therefore fostering independence among children at an early stage.

  • Mental health.

Fathers who are involved in the infancy period of their child, the kids are less likely to show symptoms of mental health problem at age 9.

  • Promotes confidence.

When fathers are loving and supportive towards their kids it greatly influences a child’s cognitive and social development. This in turn boosts child's self esteem and confidence.

  • Offer security and build certain skills.

Committed and responsible fathering during infancy and early childhood contributes to emotional security as well as improved math and verbal skills.

Fatherhood is a responsibility every male should go in consciously, as much as society puts much emphasis on mothers taking the task actively and fathers passively. A father’s position in parenting cannot be filled by anyone since it has a far-reaching impact on a child in shaping them in the adults they will become.

Even in dysfunctional families fathers can still show up for their children and the effort they make such as a weekend sleepover really go a long way.

Some may argue mothers make the best parent but guess what the best parents are the happiest ones! Those who show up for their kids holistically and make them a priority in their lives. This can be done by supporting the child's talents and praying for them to overcome life's challenges among other positive ways.

To all fathers out there striving daily in doing their best; parenting in their own unique ways.We celebrate you for the love you give and show, for being the love you never received and for being our protector, teacher and encourager!
